USDA Reports Summary

OMAHA (DTN) -- U.S. farmers planted 95.3 million acres of corn and 85.4 million acres of soybeans in spring 2026, USDA said on Tuesday, unchanged from March's estimate and within the range of pre-report estimates.

USDA released its Acreage and quarterly Grain Stocks reports on Tuesday.

Tuesday's USDA Acreage estimates were neutral for corn, neutral for soybeans and slightly bullish for wheat, said DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery. Tuesday's Grain Stocks estimates from USDA were neutral for corn, neutral for soybeans and neutral for wheat, he said.

ACREAGE

Farmers planted 95.3 million acres (ma) of corn, unchanged from March's estimate. It's down 3% from last year and represents the fifth-highest planted acreage since and including 1944. Area harvested for grain is projected at 87.4 ma.

For soybeans, USDA left unchanged its estimate of 85.4 ma. That's 5% higher than last year and the sixth largest since and including 1944.

Wheat acreage is estimated at 42.7 ma, a 6% decline from last year. Winter wheat planted area is 31.5 ma, with hard red winter accounting for 22.4 ma; soft red winter, 5.54 ma; and white winter, 3.55 ma. Spring wheat acreage is forecast at 9.39 ma, down 6% from last year. Durum wheat is estimated at 1.83 ma.

Cotton acreage is estimated at 9.85 ma, up 6% from last year.

QUARTERLY GRAIN STOCKS

Corn stocks are up 14% from June 2025.

Corn stocks in all positions on June 1, 2026, totaled 5.29 billion bushels (bb), up 14% from a year ago. Of the total stocks, 2.96 bb are stored on farms, up 16% from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 2.34 bb, are up 12% from a year ago. The March-May 2026 indicated disappearance is 3.74 bb, compared with 3.5 bb during the same period last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions on June 1, 2026, totaled 1.06 bb, up 5% from June 1, 2025. On-farm stocks totaled 367 million bushels (mb), down 11% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 694 mb, are up 16% from a year ago. Indicated disappearance for the March-May 2026 quarter totaled 1.06 bb, up 18% from the same period a year earlier.

Old-crop all wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2026, totaled 920 mb, up 8% from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 177 mb, down 4% from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 734 mb, are up 11% from a year ago. The March-May 2026 indicated disappearance is 383 mb, up slightly from the same period a year earlier.

Old-crop durum wheat stocks in all positions on June 1, 2026, totaled 33.5 mb, up 20% from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 18.6 mb, are up 32% from June 1, 2025. Off-farm stocks totaled 14.9 mb, up 8% from a year ago. The March-May 2026 indicated disappearance of 12.3 mb, up 17% from the same period a year earlier.
